The 4 Enemies of Coffee (and How to Avoid Them)
We like it strong or mild, fruity or chocolaty… but even the best beans can't reach their full potential if they are left at the mercy of their greatest enemies.
Here are coffee's 4 main enemies — and most importantly, what to do to preserve all its richness.
1. Air
Too much exposure to air causes coffee to quickly lose its aromas.
What to do?
Always make sure to seal the bag tightly or use an airtight container.
2. Humidity
It can alter the freshness of coffee and impair its preservation.
What to do?
Store your coffee in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources (like the stove or sun).
3. Light
It accelerates the degradation process of coffee.
What to do?
Choose an opaque container or keep your coffee in a cupboard.
4. Time
Coffee ages! And like any good living product, its aromas evolve… then fade.
What to do?
Grind only the necessary quantity, just before brewing. And consume your coffee within weeks of roasting.
In summary: well-preserved coffee is flavorful coffee.
And at Couleur Café, we want every cup to be a true pleasure. ☕
